Hi again!
I'm working on my text for Pan Norway which was shelled and sunk by U-123 on Jan. 26-1942. Pan Aruba's captain's report states that there were 2 U-boats, one on each side, firing with all guns (2 on each) from the time the attack started at about 20:30 until the ship sank at around 23:00. I'm wondering if Hardegen went around and fired from both sides, leading those on board Pan Aruba to believe there were 2 boats, though the report gives the impression the firing took place from both sides at the same time.
Does anyone have a matching U-boat report on this (other than Hardegen's - I have some details from his KTB)? By the way, the commander of "one of the U-boats" picked up one of the survivors from the water and carried him over to Mount Aetna, which had rescued the others, and also told them there were several more.

Hi Siri
There was just U-123! She indeed circled around the PAN NORWAY. Ican send you the pages from HARDEGENS KTB. That shows more than I can tell you in my limited english. It is not reallyflattering what is written there about the captain of thn PN and the bahavior of her crew in this action. The man U-123 fished out the sea for example shuold have been hitten by his comrades as he tried to climb on a rescue platform, and more of this kind of stuff. The KTB incloudes a schematic drawing of the attack.
Best regards

Thanks, Roland, for coming to the rescue yet again.
I wonder what the poor fellow had done to make his shipmates so upset with him(?).
Then again, I guess fear and trauma make people react in unusual ways. (No comparison, of course, but I remember seeing a mother slap her child once, after the poor little thing had just barely missed being run over by a speeding car. I was very young when I saw this, but have never forgotten it).

Yes please, if it's not a lot of trouble for you, it would be interesting to see the KTB. My German is not all that great, but I might be able to get the gest of it.
Thanks!
If you do decide to send it to me, you can use my website address - webmistress at warsailors.com - replacing the at with the usual @.
In case anybody is interested, I finished my Pan Norway page http://www.warsailors.com/singleships/pannorway.html (though I shouldn't really say finished - no page is ever finished!).
