Again, survivors' reports are causing me some headaches. Rohwer mentions only 1 U-boat in connection with this attack (U-564). However, 2 reports based on eye witness statements (a British memorandum and the captain's report) claim there were 2 U-boats shelling the ship see ( http://www.warsailors.com/singleships/vardaas.html )
I suspect there was only 1 boat, going around to both sides to shell the ship, making it look like there were 2. Can anyone confirm this?

Hello Siri
Just one u-boat, U-564. Have her KTB. Suhren fired two torpedoes at 06.12h. One hit one missed after becomming a tube runner. This had been the boats last torpedos. Surfaced at 07.10 and begun to shell the tanker. 50 rounds, 35 hits. 07.40h end of action, starting with going home. Same case as your U-123 quest. I guess he circled around the tanker whilst gunnig it. Must have been a lot of confusion amongst the tankers crew. Suhren wrote that it has been a bright night, too bright for a surface attack, so hi dived for the torpedoing.
Best regards
