First Sailing - active patrol
U-130 left Kiel under the command of Ernst Kals on 1st Dec 1941 and arrived at return on 16th Dec 1941 after just over two weeks.
Ernst Kals hit three ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy, all of them from convoy SC-57.
  • On 10th Dec 1941 he sank the British 3,829 ton Kirnwood, sailing with convoy SC-57.
  • On 10th Dec 1941 he sank the Egyptian 5,298 ton Star of Luxor, a member of convoy SC-57.
  • On 10th Dec 1941 he sank the British 5,844 ton Kurdistan, part of convoy SC-57.
27.12.1941 - 25.02.1942
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 27th Dec 1941, U-130 left Lorient under the command of Ernst Kals and after eight and a half weeks arrived at return on 25th Feb 1942.
Ernst Kals hit six ships on this patrol.
  • On 13th Jan 1942 he sank the Norwegian 1,582 ton Frisco.
  • On 13th Jan 1942 he sank the Panamanian 5,427 ton Friar Rock.
  • On 21st Jan 1942 he sank the Norwegian 8,248 ton Alexandra Høegh.
  • On 25th Jan 1942 he sank the Norwegian 9,305 ton Varanger.
  • On 27th Jan 1942 he damaged the American 6,986 ton Halo.
  • On 27th Jan 1942 he sank the American 7,096 ton Francis E Powell.

U-130 departed under Ernst Kals from Lorient on 24th Mar 1942 and arrived at return on 6th Jun 1942 after ten and a half weeks.
Ernst Kals hit two ships on this patrol.
  • On 11th Apr 1942 he sank the Norwegian 5,393 ton Grenanger.
  • On 12th Apr 1942 he sank the American 7,699 ton Esso Boston.

Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-130 left Lorient under the command of Ernst Kals on 4th Jul 1942 and after ten weeks arrived at return on 12th Sep 1942.

  • On 25th Jul 1942 he sank the Norwegian 10,095 ton Tankexpress.
  • On 27th Jul 1942 he sank the British 7,167 ton Elmwood.
  • On 30th Jul 1942 he sank the British 8,391 ton Danmark.
  • On 9th Aug 1942 he sank the Norwegian 7,078 ton Malmanger.
  • On 11th Aug 1942 he sank the Norwegian 7,455 ton Mirlo.

Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 29th Oct 1942, U-130 left Lorient under the command of Ernst Kals and arrived at return on 30th Dec 1942 after nearly nine weeks.
Ernst Kals hit three ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy, all of them from convoy UGF-1.
  • On 12th Nov 1942 he sank the American 9,360 ton USS Edward Rutledge, from convoy UGF-1.
  • On 12th Nov 1942 he sank the American 12,479 ton USS Hugh L Scott, sailing with convoy UGF-1.
  • On 12th Nov 1942 he sank the American 12,568 ton USS Tasker H Bliss, a member of convoy UGF-1.
Note that the three ships hit by Kals had sailed with convoy UGF-1, however they were at Fedelah Roads (Morocco) when torpedoed, all were at anchor and were either unloading or finished unloading at the time of attack.

28.02.1943 - 12.03.1943
Sixth Sailing
U-130 departed under Siegfried Keller from Lorient on 28th Feb 1943 and after more than one week arrived at return on 12th Mar 1943.
Siegfried Keller hit four ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy, all of them from convoy XK-2.
  • On 5th Mar 1943 he sank the British 1,574 ton Fidra, part of convoy XK-2.
  • On 5th Mar 1943 he sank the British 4,378 ton Empire Tower, from convoy XK-2.
  • On 5th Mar 1943 he sank the British 5,108 ton Ger-y-Bryn, sailing with convoy XK-2.
  • On 5th Mar 1943 he sank the British 5,299 ton Trefusius, a member of convoy XK-2.
