First Sailing
U-158 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Erwin Rostin on 2nd Feb 1942 and arrived at return on the same day.
07.02.1942 - 31.03.1942
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 7th Feb 1942, U-158 left Helgoland under the command of Erwin Rostin and after seven and a half weeks arrived at return on 31st Mar 1942.
Erwin Rostin hit seven ships on this patrol, three of these ships were in convoy, all of them from convoy ONS-67.
  • On 24th Feb 1942 he sank the British 8,032 ton Empire Celt, sailing with convoy ONS-67.
  • On 24th Feb 1942 he damaged the British 8,146 ton Diloma, a member of convoy ONS-67.
  • On 1st Mar 1942 he sank the Norwegian 9,551 ton Finnanger, part of convoy ONS-67.
  • On 11th Mar 1942 he sank the American 2,609 ton Caribsea.
  • On 13th Mar 1942 he sank the American 11,641 ton John D Gill.
  • On 15th Mar 1942 he sank the American 6,952 ton Ario.
  • On 15th Mar 1942 he damaged the American 7,118 ton Olean.

Third Sailing
U-158 departed under Erwin Rostin from Lorient on 4th May 1942 and arrived at return on 30th Jun 1942 after just over eight weeks.
Erwin Rostin hit twelve ships on this patrol, one was from convoy ON-93.
  • On 20th May 1942 he sank the British 8,113 ton Darina, from convoy ON-93.
  • On 22nd May 1942 he sank the Canadian 1,748 ton Frank B Baird.

  • On 4th Jun 1942 he sank the Norwegian 2,647 ton Nidarnes.
  • On 5th Jun 1942 he sank the American 2,572 ton Velma Lykes.
  • On 7th Jun 1942 he sank the Panamanian 5,234 ton Hermis.
  • On 11th Jun 1942 he sank the Panamanian 13,467 ton Sheherazade.
  • On 12th Jun 1942 he sank the American 8,192 ton Cities Service Toledo.
  • On 17th Jun 1942 he sank the Norwegian 1,560 ton Moira.
  • On 17th Jun 1942 he sank the Panamanian 3,601 ton San Blas.
  • On 23rd Jun 1942 he sank the American 5,766 ton Major General Henry Gibbins.
  • On 29th Jun 1942 he sank the 3,950 ton Everalda.
