U-177 left Kiel under the command of Robert Gysae on 17th Sep 1942 and arrived at return on 22nd Jan 1943 after just over eighteen weeks.

| 01.04.1943 - 01.10.1943 Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 1st Apr 1943, U-177 left Bordeaux under the command of Robert Gysae and after just over twentysix weeks arrived at return on 1st Oct 1943. At 1020 HRS on 6th Jun 1943 in square GR 25, U-177 came under attack from an aircraft of RCAF 413 Squadron.
Robert Gysae hit six ships on this patrol, three of these ships were in convoy: two were from convoy CD-20 and one was from convoy DN-53.

U-177 departed under Heinz Buchholz from Bordeaux on 23rd Dec 1943 and arrived at return on 26th Dec 1943 after three days.
