| Operations information for U-30 | 22.08.1939 - 27.09.1939 First Sailing - active patrol
U-30 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Fritz-Julius Lemp on 22nd Aug 1939 for operations in the North Atlantic and arrived at return on 27th Sep 1939 after just over five weeks.
Fritz-Julius Lemp hit three ships on this patrol.-
On 3rd Sep 1939 he sank the British 13,581 ton Athenia.

On 11th Sep 1939 he sank the British 4,425 ton Blairlogie.

On 14th Sep 1939 he sank the British 5,200 ton Fanad Head.
Athenia was the first ship sunk during the war.
| 09.12.1939 - 14.12.1939 Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 9th Dec 1939, U-30 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Fritz-Julius Lemp and after five days arrived at return on 14th Dec 1939.U-30 aborted this patrol because of defects.
| 23.12.1939 - 17.01.1940 Third Sailing - active patrol
U-30 departed under Fritz-Julius Lemp from Wilhelmshaven on 23rd Dec 1939 for operations off Liverpool and arrived at return on 17th Jan 1940 after three and a half weeks.
Fritz-Julius Lemp hit two ships on this patrol.-
On 28th Dec 1939 he sank the British 325 ton HMS Barbara Robertson.

On 28th Dec 1939 he damaged the British 31,100 ton HMS Barham.
U-30 laid mines on this patrol. These mines were hit by 6 ships. The 7,267 ton British El Oso was sunk by a mine on 11th Jan 1940. The 5,642 ton British Gracia was damaged by a mine on 15th Jan 1940. The 5,494 ton British Cairnross was sunk by a mine on 17th Jan 1940. The 4,305 ton British Munster was sunk by a mine on 7th Feb 1940. The 5,406 ton British Chagres was sunk by a mine on 9th Feb 1940. The 5,068 ton British Counsellor was sunk by a mine on 8th Mar 1940.On this patrol Lemp conducted a mine laying operation off Liverpool (UK), laying 12 TMB mines close to the Bar lightship on 6th Jan 1940. His minefield claimed 4 ships sunk and 1 damaged. The Port of Liverpool, the largest and most important port on the west coast, was compelled to temporarily close down due to Lemp's minelaying expertise.
| 11.03.1940 - 30.03.1940 Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-30 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Fritz-Julius Lemp on 11th Mar 1940 for operations W of Norway and after more than two weeks arrived at return on 30th Mar 1940.While returning from this patrol U-30 rescued German aircrew.
| 03.04.1940 - 04.05.1940 Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 3rd Apr 1940, U-30 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Fritz-Julius Lemp for operations off Norway and the Shetlands and arrived at return on 4th May 1940 after four and a half weeks.U-30 opened sealed orders on the 6th April, which detailed orders for Operation Hartmut - support of the German occupation of Norway. On 3rd May, U-30 rescued 13 survivors from the Swedish Hagar, sunk by a British mine.
| 08.06.1940 - 07.07.1940 Sixth Sailing - active patrol
U-30 departed under Fritz-Julius Lemp from Wilhelmshaven on 8th Jun 1940 for operations SW of Ireland and after just over four weeks arrived at return on 7th Jul 1940.
Fritz-Julius Lemp hit five ships on this patrol, two of these ships were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-49 and one was from convoy SL-36.

On 20th Jun 1940 he sank the British 4,876 ton Otterpool.

On 22nd Jun 1940 he sank the Norwegian 3,999 ton Randsfjord, sailing with convoy HX-49.

On 28th Jun 1940 he sank the British 5,053 ton Llanarth.

On 1st Jul 1940 he sank the British 5,218 ton Beignon, a member of convoy SL-36.

On 6th Jul 1940 he sank the Egyptian 3,154 ton Angele Mabro.
On 1st July Lemp attacked another as yet unidentified ship from convoy SL-36, nearly 4 hours before he sank the Beignon. He estimated its size at 7900 tons. | 13.07.1940 - 24.07.1940 Seventh Sailing - active patrol
U-30 left Lorient under the command of Fritz-Julius Lemp on 13th Jul 1940 for operations off of Gibraltar and arrived at return on 24th Jul 1940 after one and a half weeks.
Fritz-Julius Lemp hit one ship on this patrol.-
On 21st Jul 1940 he sank the British 712 ton Ellaroy.
| 05.08.1940 - 30.08.1940 Eighth Sailing - active patrol
On the 5th Aug 1940, U-30 left Lorient under the command of Fritz-Julius Lemp for operations in the North West approaches and after three and a half weeks arrived at return on 30th Aug 1940.
Fritz-Julius Lemp hit two ships on this patrol, one was from convoy OB-197.-
On 9th Aug 1940 he sank the Swedish 5,779 ton Canton.

On 16th Aug 1940 he sank the British 6,628 ton Clan Macphee, part of convoy OB-197.

| Notes for U-30 | U-30 was decommissioned January 1945, and was scuttled on 5th May 1945 at Flensburg Fiord, Kupfermühlen Bay.
