On the 15th Aug 1942, U-515 left Kristiansand under the command of Werner Henke and after eight and a half weeks arrived at return on 14th Oct 1942.

  • On 12th Sep 1942 he sank the Panamanian 10,013 ton Stanvac Melbourne.

  • On 13th Sep 1942 he sank the British 7,174 ton Ocean Vanguard.

Third Sailing - active patrol
U-515 departed under Werner Henke from Lorient on 7th Nov 1942 and arrived at return on 6th Jan 1943 after eight and a half weeks.
Werner Henke hit three ships on this patrol, two of these ships were in convoy, both of them were from convoy Torch.
  • On 12th Nov 1942 he damaged the British 1,920 ton HMS Marne, sailing with convoy Torch.
  • On 12th Nov 1942 he sank the British 10,850 ton HMS Hecla, a member of convoy Torch.
  • On 7th Dec 1942 he sank the British 18,713 ton Ceramic.
21.02.1943 - 24.06.1943
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-515 left Lorient under the command of Werner Henke on 21st Feb 1943 and after seventeen and a half weeks arrived at return on 24th Jun 1943.
On 29th Apr 1943 in square ET 26, U-515 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 270 Squadron. U-515 was not damaged by the attack. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.
Werner Henke hit ten ships on this patrol, seven of these ships were in convoy, all of them from convoy TS-37.
  • On 4th Mar 1943 he sank the British 8,300 ton California Star.
  • On 9th Apr 1943 he sank the French 2,357 ton Bamako.

  • On 1st May 1943 he sank the British 6,940 ton Clan Macpherson, sailing with convoy TS-37.
  • On 9th May 1943 he sank the Norwegian 4,544 ton Corneville.
