First Sailing - active patrol
U-522 left Kiel under the command of Herbert Schneider on 8th Oct 1942 and arrived at return on 2nd Dec 1942 after nearly eight weeks.
Herbert Schneider hit five ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy ONS-144 and four were from convoy SC-107.
  • On 2nd Nov 1942 he sank the Greek 3,189 ton Parthenon, sailing with convoy SC-107.
  • On 2nd Nov 1942 he damaged the British 5,496 ton Hartington, a member of convoy SC-107.
  • On 2nd Nov 1942 he sank the Greek 5,655 ton Mount Pelion, part of convoy SC-107.
  • On 2nd Nov 1942 he sank the British 5,801 ton Maritima, from convoy SC-107.
  • On 18th Nov 1942 he sank the American 5,432 ton Yaka, sailing with convoy ONS-144.

Second Sailing
On the 31st Dec 1942, U-522 left Lorient under the command of Herbert Schneider and after more than seven weeks arrived at return on 23rd Feb 1943.
Herbert Schneider hit four ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: three were from convoy TM-1 and one was from convoy UC-1.
  • On 9th Jan 1943 he sank the Norwegian 6,833 ton Minister Wedel, a member of convoy TM-1.
  • On 9th Jan 1943 he sank the Panamanian 10,034 ton Norvik, part of convoy TM-1.
  • On 11th Jan 1943 he damaged the British 6,983 ton British Dominion, from convoy TM-1.
  • On 23rd Feb 1943 he sank the British 8,882 ton Athelprincess, sailing with convoy UC-1.
