Notes for U-578
It was originally thought that U-578 had been sunk on the 10th August by a Wellington of the 311 (Czech) Squadron. This assessment was changed in 1995 by Axel Niestlé. That attack turns out to have been against U-135 for minor damage. Currently the cause of U-578's loss is unknown.
