First Sailing - active patrol
U-588 left Kiel under the command of Victor Vogel on 8th Jan 1942 and arrived at return on 30th Jan 1942 after just over three weeks.
Victor Vogel hit one ship on this patrol from convoy SC-63.
  • On 22nd Jan 1942 he sank the British 5,851 ton Caledonian Monarch, sailing with convoy SC-63.
12.02.1942 - 27.03.1942
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 12th Feb 1942, U-588 left Lorient under the command of Victor Vogel and after just over six weeks arrived at return on 27th Mar 1942.
Victor Vogel hit two ships on this patrol, one was from convoy ON-66.
  • On 1st Mar 1942 he sank the British 4,890 ton Carperby, a member of convoy ON-66.
  • On 10th Mar 1942 he sank the American 6,776 ton Gulftrade.
19.04.1942 - 07.06.1942
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-588 departed under Victor Vogel from St. Nazaire on 19th Apr 1942 and arrived at return on 7th Jun 1942 after seven weeks.
Victor Vogel hit five ships on this patrol.
  • On 9th May 1942 he damaged the American 7,460 ton Greylock.
  • On 10th May 1942 he sank the British 4,031 ton Kitty´s Brook.
  • On 17th May 1942 he sank the Norwegian 2,117 ton Skottland.
  • On 22nd May 1942 he sank the American 3,282 ton Plow City.
  • On 23rd May 1942 he sank the British 4,545 ton Margot.
