On 3rd Feb 1943 in square CH 82, U-596 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft. U-596 was not damaged by the attack. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft. On 4th Feb 1943 in square CH 81, U-596 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 48 Squadron. U-596 was not damaged by the attack.
