U-603 left Kiel under the command of Hans-Joachim Bertelsmann on 5th Nov 1942 and arrived at return on 7th Nov 1942 after two days.
13.11.1942 - 17.11.1942
Second Sailing
On the 13th Nov 1942, U-603 left Kristiansand under the command of Hans-Joachim Bertelsmann and after four days arrived at return on 17th Nov 1942.
22.11.1942 - 23.11.1942
Third Sailing
U-603 departed under Hans-Joachim Bertelsmann from Bergen on 22nd Nov 1942 and arrived at return on 23rd Nov 1942 after one day.
23.11.1942 - 09.12.1942
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-603 left Bergen under the command of Hans-Joachim Bertelsmann on 23rd Nov 1942 and after over two weeks arrived at return on 9th Dec 1942.
07.02.1943 - 26.03.1943
Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 7th Feb 1943, U-603 left Brest under the command of Hans-Joachim Bertelsmann and arrived at return on 26th Mar 1943 after more than six weeks.
Hans-Joachim Bertelsmann hit three ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-229 and two were from convoy ON-166.
  • On 21st Feb 1943 he sank the Norwegian 5,964 ton Stigstad, sailing with convoy ON-166.
  • On 23rd Feb 1943 he sank the Norwegian 6,409 ton Glittre, a member of convoy ON-166.
  • On 16th Mar 1943 he sank the Norwegian 5,214 ton Elin K, part of convoy HX-229.

05.05.1943 - 16.07.1943
Sixth Sailing - active patrol
U-603 departed under Rudolf Baltz from Brest on 5th May 1943 and after over ten weeks arrived at return on 16th Jul 1943.
At 1950 HRS on 12th May 1943 in square BD 66, U-603 came under attack from an aircraft of FAA 811 Squadron.
On 4th Jun 1943 in square DF 15, U-603 came under attack from an aircraft of USN VC9 Squadron. U-603 was moderately damaged by the attack. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.
Rudolf Baltz hit one ship on this patrol from convoy HX-237.
  • On 12th May 1943 he sank the Norwegian 4,819 ton Brand, from convoy HX-237.

U-603 left Brest under the command of Rudolf Baltz on 9th Sep 1943 and arrived at return on 3rd Nov 1943 after nearly eight weeks.

On the 5th Feb 1944, U-603 left Brest under the command of Hans-Joachim Bertelsmann and after three and a half weeks arrived at return on 1st Mar 1944.
