U-610 left Kiel under the command of Baron Walter von Freyberg-Eisenberg-Allmendingen on 12th Sep 1942 and arrived at return on 31st Oct 1942 after seven weeks.

On 16th Dec 1942 he sank the Norwegian 6,125 ton Bello, part of convoy ON-153.

| 08.03.1943 - 12.05.1943 Third Sailing - active patrol
U-610 departed under Baron Walter von Freyberg-Eisenberg-Allmendingen from St. Nazaire on 8th Mar 1943 and arrived at return on 12th May 1943 after over nine weeks. At 2105 HRS on 18th Mar 1943 in square AK 69, U-610 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 120 Squadron. U-610 was moderately damaged by the attack.
Baron Walter von Freyberg-Eisenberg-Allmendingen hit one ship on this patrol from convoy HX-230.-
On 29th Mar 1943 he sank the American 7,176 ton William Pierce Frye, sailing with convoy HX-230.

| Notes for U-610 | Early on the 8th of October 1943 U-610 unsuccessfully attacked an escort of SC143. Later in the day west-south-west of Rockall at about 1930, 423 SQN Sunderland RCAF (FO A H Russell) suddenly sighted U-610 surfaced at close range. The Sunderland fired at the boat with MG, and the boat replied with Flak and MG. Russell came around for a full attack and dropped 3 D/Cs which rocked the boat and produced debris and oil. Some men were afterwards observed in the water however none were rescued. 51 men died with U-610.
