29.08.1942 - 07.10.1942
First Sailing - active patrol
U-617 left Kiel under the command of Albrecht Brandi on 29th Aug 1942 and arrived at return on 7th Oct 1942 after five and a half weeks.
Albrecht Brandi hit four ships on this patrol, three of these ships were in convoy, all of them from convoy SC-100.
  • On 7th Sep 1942 he sank the 292 ton Tor II.
  • On 23rd Sep 1942 he sank the British 2,342 ton Tennessee, sailing with convoy SC-100.
  • On 23rd Sep 1942 he sank the British 8,882 ton Athelsultan, a member of convoy SC-100.
  • On 24th Sep 1942 he sank the Belgian 3,563 ton Roumanie, part of convoy SC-100.
02.11.1942 - 28.11.1942
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 2nd Nov 1942, U-617 left St. Nazaire under the command of Albrecht Brandi and after more than three weeks arrived at return on 28th Nov 1942.
21.12.1942 - 17.01.1943
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-617 departed under Albrecht Brandi from La Spezia on 21st Dec 1942 and arrived at return on 17th Jan 1943 after nearly four weeks.
Albrecht Brandi hit three ships on this patrol.
  • On 28th Dec 1942 he sank the British 810 ton St Issey.
  • On 15th Jan 1943 he sank the Norwegian 1,862 ton Harboe Jensen.
  • On 15th Jan 1943 he sank the Greek 4,324 ton Annitsa.

U-617 left La Spezia under the command of Albrecht Brandi on 27th Jan 1943 and after two and a half weeks arrived at return on 13th Feb 1943.
Albrecht Brandi hit three ships on this patrol.
  • On 1st Feb 1943 he sank the British 2,650 ton HMS Welshman.
  • On 5th Feb 1943 he sank the Norwegian 1,350 ton Henrik.
  • On 5th Feb 1943 he sank the Norwegian 3,264 ton Corona.

Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 25th Mar 1943, U-617 left Pola under the command of Albrecht Brandi and arrived at return on 17th Apr 1943 after over three weeks.
At 1903 HRS on 2nd Apr 1943 U-617 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft. U-617 was not damaged by the attack.
At 1405 HRS on 11th Apr 1943 U-617 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 48 Squadron. U-617 was only slightly damaged in the attack.
31.05.1943 - 01.06.1943
Sixth Sailing
U-617 departed under Albrecht Brandi from Toulon on 31st May 1943 and after one day arrived at return on 1st Jun 1943.
19.06.1943 - 20.07.1943
Seventh Sailing - active patrol
U-617 left Toulon under the command of Albrecht Brandi on 19th Jun 1943 and arrived at return on 20th Jul 1943 after four and a half weeks.
On 29th Jun 1943 in square CH 74, U-617 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 48 Squadron. U-617 was only slightly damaged in the attack.
28.08.1943 - 12.09.1943
Eighth Sailing
On the 28th Aug 1943, U-617 left Toulon under the command of Albrecht Brandi and after just over two weeks arrived at return on 12th Sep 1943.
Albrecht Brandi hit one ship on this patrol from convoy NSM-1.
  • On 6th Sep 1943 he sank the British 1,050 ton HMS Puckeridge, from convoy NSM-1.
