28.11.1942 - 08.01.1943
First Sailing - active patrol
U-628 left Kiel under the command of Heinrich Hasenschar on 28th Nov 1942 and arrived at return on 8th Jan 1943 after nearly six weeks.
Heinrich Hasenschar hit one ship on this patrol from convoy ONS-154.
  • On 29th Dec 1942 he sank the British 5,029 ton Lynton Grange, sailing with convoy ONS-154.
01.02.1943 - 09.03.1943
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 1st Feb 1943, U-628 left Brest under the command of Heinrich Hasenschar and after just over five weeks arrived at return on 9th Mar 1943.
On 3rd Feb 1943 in square BF 45, U-628 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft. U-628 was not damaged by the attack.
Heinrich Hasenschar hit four ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy, all of them from convoy ON-166.
  • On 23rd Feb 1943 he damaged the Norwegian 6,409 ton Glittre, a member of convoy ON-166.
  • On 23rd Feb 1943 he damaged the Panamanian 6,907 ton Winkler, part of convoy ON-166.
  • On 24th Feb 1943 he sank the Norwegian 4,391 ton Ingria, from convoy ON-166.
  • On 25th Feb 1943 he sank the British 7,264 ton Manchester Merchant, sailing with convoy ON-166.

08.04.1943 - 19.05.1943
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-628 departed under Heinrich Hasenschar from Brest on 8th Apr 1943 and arrived at return on 19th May 1943 after nearly six weeks.
On 11th Apr 1943 U-628 came under attack from an aircraft of RAAF 10 Squadron. U-628 was not damaged by the attack.
On 17th May 1943 in square BF 48, U-628 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 58 Squadron.
Heinrich Hasenschar hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-233 and one was from convoy ONS-5.
  • On 17th Apr 1943 he damaged the British 7,134 ton Fort Rampart, a member of convoy HX-233.
  • On 5th May 1943 he sank the British 5,081 ton Harbury, part of convoy ONS-5.
