Third Sailing - active patrol
U-763 departed under Ernst Cordes from La Pallice on 10th Jun 1944 and arrived at return on 15th Jul 1944 after five weeks.U 763 is often reported to have sunk the Norwegian ship RINGEN on the 5th of July. The KTB of U 763 records the attack that is supposed to have sunk this ship, as having taken place on the 5th, and the evidence of any success during this attack is slim at best. Yet the captain of RINGEN reported the sinking as happening on the 4th. It is therefore most likely that RINGEN sank as the result of hitting a mine.

See the page on Ringen at warsailors.com.
