U-84 departed under Horst Uphoff from Lorient on 16th Oct 1941 and arrived at return on 18th Nov 1941 after more than four weeks.

Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-84 left Brest under the command of Horst Uphoff on 21st Dec 1941 and after nearly seven weeks arrived at return on 7th Feb 1942.
16.03.1942 - 16.05.1942
Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 16th Mar 1942, U-84 left Brest under the command of Horst Uphoff and arrived at return on 16th May 1942 after more than eight weeks.
Horst Uphoff hit two ships on this patrol.
  • On 8th Apr 1942 he sank the Yugoslavian 5,226 ton Nemanja.
  • On 21st Apr 1942 he sank the Panamanian 3,014 ton Chenango.
10.06.1942 - 13.08.1942
Sixth Sailing - active patrol
U-84 departed under Horst Uphoff from Brest on 10th Jun 1942 and after just over nine weeks arrived at return on 13th Aug 1942.
Horst Uphoff hit four ships on this patrol, one was from convoy TAW-4J.
  • On 23rd Jun 1942 he sank the Norwegian 6,568 ton Torvanger.
  • On 13th Jul 1942 he sank the American 5,990 ton Andrew Jackson.
  • On 19th Jul 1942 he sank the 1,648 ton Baja California.
  • On 21st Jul 1942 he damaged the American 7,176 ton William Cullen Bryant, sailing with convoy TAW-4J.

U-84 left Brest under the command of Horst Uphoff on 29th Sep 1942 and arrived at return on 7th Dec 1942 after nearly ten weeks.
Horst Uphoff hit one ship on this patrol from convoy SC-107.
  • On 2nd Nov 1942 he sank the British 7,459 ton Empire Sunrise, a member of convoy SC-107.
17.02.1943 - 04.05.1943
Eighth Sailing - active patrol
On the 17th Feb 1943, U-84 left Brest under the command of Horst Uphoff and after nearly eleven weeks arrived at return on 4th May 1943.
On 1st May 1943 in square BF 44, U-84 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 1404 Squadron.
