U-D3 left Kiel under the command of Hermann Rigele on 3rd Oct 1942 and arrived at return on 22nd Oct 1942 after more than two weeks.

Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 3rd Nov 1942, U-D3 left Lorient under the command of Hermann Rigele and after over nine weeks arrived at return on 7th Jan 1943.
Hermann Rigele hit one ship on this patrol.-
On 26th Nov 1942 he sank the Norwegian 5,041 ton Indra.
