U-106 left Kiel under the command of Jürgen Oesten on 4th Jan 1941 and arrived at return on 10th Feb 1941 after over five weeks.

This was the second time Malaya had been the target of U-Boat attention. Oesten's damaging attack on Malaya resulted in the ship being out of action for months, going to the United States via Trinidad for repairs. After BdU heard the news, Dönitz awarded Oesten his Ritterkreuz over radio.
