First Sailing - active patrol
U-111 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Wilhelm Kleinschmidt on 5th May 1941 and arrived at Lorient on 7th Jul 1941 after nine weeks.
Wilhelm Kleinschmidt hit three ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-126, one was from convoy OB-322 and one was from convoy SC-30.
  • On 13th May 1941 he sank the British 5,170 ton Somersby, sailing with convoy SC-30.
  • On 20th May 1941 he damaged the British 13,037 ton San Felix, a member of convoy OB-322.
  • On 22nd May 1941 he sank the British 4,813 ton Barnby, part of convoy HX-126.

Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 14th Aug 1941, U-111 left Lorient under the command of Wilhelm Kleinschmidt. U-111 was sunk on 4th Oct 1941.
Wilhelm Kleinschmidt hit two ships on this patrol.
  • On 10th Sep 1941 he sank the Dutch 5,719 ton Marken.
  • On 20th Sep 1941 he sank the British 8,474 ton Cingalese Prince.
