First Sailing
U-116 left Kiel under the command of Werner von Schmidt on 4th Apr 1942 and arrived at Helgoland on 5th Apr 1942 after one day.
11.04.1942 - 15.04.1942
Second Sailing
On the 11th Apr 1942, U-116 left Helgoland under the command of Werner von Schmidt and after four days arrived at Bergen on 15th Apr 1942.
25.04.1942 - 05.05.1942
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-116 departed under Werner von Schmidt from Bergen on 25th Apr 1942 and arrived at Lorient on 5th May 1942 after one and a half weeks.
16.05.1942 - 09.06.1942
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-116 left Lorient under the command of Werner von Schmidt on 16th May 1942 and returned three and a half weeks later to Lorient on 9th Jun 1942.
27.06.1942 - 23.08.1942
Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 27th Jun 1942, U-116 left Lorient under the command of Werner von Schmidt and arrived back at Lorient just over eight weeks later on 23rd Aug 1942.
Werner von Schmidt hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy, both of them were from convoy OS-33.
  • On 12th Jul 1942 he sank the British 4,284 ton Shaftesbury, sailing with convoy OS-33.
  • On 12th Jul 1942 he damaged the British 7,093 ton Cortona, a member of convoy OS-33.
22.09.1942 - 06.10.1942
Sixth Sailing - active patrol
U-116 departed under Wilhelm Grimme from Lorient on 22nd Sep 1942. U-116 was sunk on 6th Oct 1942.
