First Sailing
U-1223 left Kiel under the command of Albert Kneip on 6th Aug 1944 and arrived at Horten on 8th Aug 1944 after two days.
14.08.1944 - 17.08.1944
Second Sailing
On the 14th Aug 1944, U-1223 left Horten under the command of Albert Kneip and after three days arrived at Bergen on 17th Aug 1944.
28.08.1944 - 24.12.1944
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-1223 departed under Albert Kneip from Bergen on 28th Aug 1944 and arrived at Kristiansand on 24th Dec 1944 after nearly seventeen weeks.
Albert Kneip hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy ONS-33G and one was from convoy QS-99.
  • On 14th Oct 1944 he fatally damaged the Canadian 1,370 ton HMCS Magog, sailing with convoy ONS-33G.
  • On 2nd Nov 1944 he damaged the British 7,134 ton Fort Thompson, a member of convoy QS-99.
