First Sailing - active patrol
U-15 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Heinz Buchholz on 31st Aug 1939 for operations in the North Sea and arrived back at Wilhelmshaven just over one week later on 8th Sep 1939.

U-15 laid mines on this patrol. These mines were hit by 1 ship.
The 2,796 ton British Goodwood was sunk by a mine on 10th Sep 1939.
20.09.1939 - 08.10.1939
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 20th Sep 1939, U-15 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Heinz Buchholz for operations in the English Channel and returned to Wilhelmshaven on 8th Oct 1939 after two and a half weeks on patrol.

U-15 laid mines on this patrol. These mines were hit by 1 ship.
The 1,478 ton British Orsa was sunk by a mine on 21st Oct 1939.
14.11.1939 - 18.11.1939
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-15 departed under Peter Frahm from Kiel on 14th Nov 1939 for operations off Lowestoft and arrived at Wilhelmshaven on 18th Nov 1939 after four days.

U-15 laid mines on this patrol. These mines were hit by 1 ship.
The 258 ton British Resercho was sunk by a mine on 28th Dec 1939.

Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-15 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Peter Frahm on 9th Jan 1940 and returned one and a half weeks later to Wilhelmshaven on 20th Jan 1940.

Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 29th Jan 1940, U-15 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Peter Frahm for operations in the North Sea. The boat was sunk on 30th Jan 1940.

Notes for U-15
U-15 was sunk on 30th January 1940 at Hoofden (North Sea) when accidentally rammed by German torpedo boat Iltis. 25 men were lost, none survived.
