On the 20th Sep 1939, U-15 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Heinz Buchholz for operations in the English Channel and returned to Wilhelmshaven on 8th Oct 1939 after two and a half weeks on patrol.
U-15 laid mines on this patrol. These mines were hit by 1 ship. The 1,478 ton British Orsa was sunk by a mine on 21st Oct 1939.

U-15 departed under Peter Frahm from Kiel on 14th Nov 1939 for operations off Lowestoft and arrived at Wilhelmshaven on 18th Nov 1939 after four days.
