Operations information for U-164
18.07.1942 - 07.10.1942
First Sailing - active patrol
U-164 left Kiel under the command of Otto Fechner on 18th Jul 1942 and arrived at Lorient on 7th Oct 1942 after eleven and a half weeks.
Otto Fechner hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy GAT-2 and one was from convoy WAT-15.
  • On 25th Aug 1942 he sank the Dutch 3,780 ton Stad Amsterdam, sailing with convoy WAT-15.
  • On 6th Sep 1942 he sank the Canadian 1,745 ton John A Holloway, a member of convoy GAT-2.
29.11.1942 - 06.01.1943
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 29th Nov 1942, U-164 left Lorient under the command of Otto Fechner. U-164 was lost on 6th Jan 1943.
On 6th Jan 1943 in square FB 56, U-164 came under attack from an aircraft of USN VP-83 Squadron. U-164 was destroyed in the attack.
Otto Fechner hit one ship on this patrol.
  • On 1st Jan 1943 he sank the Swedish 2,608 ton Brageland.
