Operations information for U-169
18.03.1943 - 27.03.1943
First Sailing - active patrol
U-169 left Kiel under the command of Hermann Bauer on 18th Mar 1943. U-169 was lost on 27th Mar 1943.
At 1130 HRS on 27th Mar 1943 in square AE 87, U-169 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 206 Squadron. U-169 was destroyed in the attack. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.

Notes for U-169
On 27th March 1943 U-169 was on its way to join the Seewolf group. At 1130, 206 SQN Fortress of 15th Grp CC RAF (FO A C I Samuel) dived at U-169 North of Rockall and was met with Flak. The D/Cs that were dropped caused the boat to submerge, then hang in a bows up attitude. The Fortress came around for a second run and attacked with more D/Cs and guns, and U-169 slid under. 54 men were lost.
