Notes for U-191
On 23rd April while SE of Cape Farewell U-191 took over the shadowing of convoy ONS-4 from U-732. Fiehn sent a report on the convoy, it was probably this DF'd report that brought in HMS Hesperus and HMS Clematis. Hesperus' first Hedgehog attack was foiled by inexperienced crew, but Clematis kept up the pressure with a D/C attack. Hesperus then tried a new 2,000 lb depth charge before delivering another hedgehog attack. This time it worked, and 55 men aboard U-191 were lost when two hedgehogs hit their boat. There were no survivors, U-191 going down at 56.45N, 34.25W
