U-214 left Brest under the command of Günther Reeder on 4th May 1943 and returned to Brest on 10th May 1943 after six days on patrol. At 1014 HRS on 7th May 1943 in square BF 44, U-214 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 58 Squadron. U-214 was heavily damaged in the attack. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft. OL Günther Reeder was wounded by aircraft fire during the attack, the IWO Lt. Rupprecht Fischler took command of the boat and returned to Brest.

On the 18th May 1943, U-214 left Brest under the command of Rupprecht Stock and arrived back at Brest on 26th Jun 1943 after five and a half weeks on patrol.
