20.06.1944 - 03.07.1944 First Sailing - active patrol U-396 left Kiel under the command of Ernst-Günther Unterhorst on 20th Jun 1944 and arrived at Bergen on 3rd Jul 1944 after nearly two weeks.
15.07.1944 - 20.07.1944 Second Sailing - active patrol On the 15th Jul 1944, U-396 left Bergen under the command of Ernst-Günther Unterhorst and after five days arrived at Trondheim on 20th Jul 1944.
06.08.1944 - 16.08.1944 Third Sailing - active patrol U-396 departed under Ernst-Günther Unterhorst from Trondheim on 6th Aug 1944 and arrived back at Trondheim on 16th Aug 1944 after one and a half weeks on patrol.
21.10.1944 - 19.12.1944 Fourth Sailing - active patrol U-396 left Trondheim under the command of Ernst-Günther Unterhorst on 21st Oct 1944 and returned eight and a half weeks later to Trondheim on 19th Dec 1944.
13.03.1945 - 23.04.1945 Fifth Sailing - active patrol On the 13th Mar 1945, U-396 left Trondheim under the command of Hilmar Siemon. U-396 was sunk on 23rd Apr 1945.
