U-399 left Kiel under the command of Heinz Buhse on 25th Jan 1945 and arrived at Horten on 28th Jan 1945 after three days.

On the 6th Feb 1945, U-399 left Horten under the command of Heinz Buhse. U-399 was lost on 26th Mar 1945.
Heinz Buhse hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy BTC-103 and one was from convoy BTC-108.

On 21st Mar 1945 he fatally damaged the American 7,176 ton James Eagan Layne, sailing with convoy BTC-103.
