First Sailing
U-413 left Kiel under the command of Gustav Poel on 22nd Oct 1942 and arrived at Marviken on 24th Oct 1942 after two days.
28.10.1942 - 25.11.1942
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 28th Oct 1942, U-413 left Marviken under the command of Gustav Poel and after four weeks arrived at Brest on 25th Nov 1942.
Gustav Poel hit one ship on this patrol from convoy MKF-1X.
  • On 14th Nov 1942 he sank the British 20,107 ton HMS Warwick Castle, sailing with convoy MKF-1X.
27.12.1942 - 17.02.1943
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-413 departed under Gustav Poel from Brest on 27th Dec 1942 and arrived back at Brest on 17th Feb 1943 after seven and a half weeks on patrol.
Gustav Poel hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy SC-117 and one was from convoy SC-118.
  • On 22nd Jan 1943 he sank the Greek 3,556 ton Mount Mycale, a member of convoy SC-117.
  • On 5th Feb 1943 he sank the American 5,376 ton West Portal, part of convoy SC-118.
29.03.1943 - 13.06.1943
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-413 left Brest under the command of Gustav Poel on 29th Mar 1943 and returned nearly eleven weeks later to Brest on 13th Jun 1943.
At 1516 HRS on 24th Apr 1943 in square AK 33, U-413 came under attack from an aircraft of USN VP-84 Squadron. U-413 was not damaged by the attack.
On 23rd May 1943 in square AK 94, U-413 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 86 Squadron.
At 0725 HRS on 26th May 1943 in square AK 94, U-413 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.
Gustav Poel hit one ship on this patrol from convoy ONS-3.
  • On 21st Apr 1943 he sank the British 5,486 ton Wanstead, from convoy ONS-3.

Gustav Poel hit one ship on this patrol.
  • On 20th Feb 1944 he sank the British 1,100 ton HMS Warwick.
06.06.1944 - 09.06.1944
Ninth Sailing - active patrol
U-413 departed under Dietrich Sachse from Brest on 6th Jun 1944 and arrived back at Brest three days later on 9th Jun 1944.
02.08.1944 - 20.08.1944
Tenth Sailing - active patrol
U-413 left Brest under the command of Dietrich Sachse on 2nd Aug 1944. The boat was lost on 20th Aug 1944.
Dietrich Sachse hit one ship on this patrol from convoy ETC-72.
  • On 19th Aug 1944 he sank the British 2,360 ton Saint Enogat, sailing with convoy ETC-72.
