First Sailing - active patrol
U-460 left Kiel under the command of Friedrich Schäfer on 7th Jun 1942 and arrived at St. Nazaire on 31st Jul 1942 after more than seven weeks.In late June N of the Azores U-460 re-supplied U-89 and U-132 for continued operations; and the outbound boats U-171, U-173, U-402, U-458, U-508, U-509 and U-576. She also refuelled the returning boats U-126, U-202 and U-584.
27.08.1942 - 12.10.1942
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 27th Aug 1942, U-460 left St. Nazaire under the command of Ebe Schnoor and returned to St. Nazaire on 12th Oct 1942 after six and a half weeks on patrol.U-460 was stationed SW of the Azores and from mid September she re-supplied the outbound boats U-201, U-202 and U-332. She also refuelled the returning U-511. U-460 then moved to N of Cape Verde Is, and from late September she re-supplied U-87, U-107, U-333 and U-590 for further operations, and the returning U-109, U-406 and U-507.

Third Sailing - active patrol
U-460 departed under Ebe Schnoor from St. Nazaire on 11th Nov 1942 and arrived back at St. Nazaire on 19th Dec 1942 after five and a half weeks on patrol.U-460 was stationed NW of the Azores and from late November to early December the following boats were re-supplied for continued operations: U-373, U-445, U-611, U-623 and U-663. Also re-fuelled were the returning boats U-67, U-84, U-106, U-183, U-224, U-383, U-518, U-606, U-608 and U-753.

Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-460 left St. Nazaire under the command of Ebe Schnoor on 27th Jan 1943 and after over five weeks arrived at Bordeaux on 5th Mar 1943.U-460 was stationed E of Newfoundland and from mid to late February she re-supplied U-89, U-135 and U-608 for further operations, and the returning U-186, U-226, U-303, U-402, U-403, U-454, U-456, U-525, U-594, U-606, U-607, U-614 and U-632.
24.04.1943 - 25.06.1943
Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 24th Apr 1943, U-460 left Bordeaux under the command of Ebe Schnoor and arrived back at Bordeaux nearly nine weeks later on 25th Jun 1943.In early May U-460 was refuelled by the returning U-117. Then, operating W of Freetown during the second half of May she re-supplied the following boats for further operations: U-105, U-126, U-154, U-511, U-513, U-515. The returning U-123 was supplied. While returning, U-460 fuelled U-118 W of the Azores, and later also supplied U-92.
23.08.1943 - 25.08.1943
Sixth Sailing
U-460 departed under Ebe Schnoor from Bordeaux on 23rd Aug 1943 and returned to Bordeaux on 25th Aug 1943 after two days.
30.08.1943 - 04.10.1943
Seventh Sailing - active patrol
U-460 left Bordeaux under the command of Ebe Schnoor on 30th Aug 1943. The boat was sunk on 4th Oct 1943.From September 10th to 13th N of the Azores, U-460 re-supplied U-260, U-305, U-338, U-386 and U-645 for further operations. On 15th September she refuelled U-170 and U-536. In late September she refuelled U-448, U-603 and U-610. On the 4th of October 1943, U-460 was refuelling U-264, U-422 and U-455 when the group was attacked by an Avenger of VC-9 (Lt R L Stearns). 3 more aircraft arrived, and during the attack U-460 was sunk in position 43.13N,28.58W.
