| Operations information for U-487 | 27.03.1943 - 12.05.1943 First Sailing - active patrol
U-487 left Kiel under the command of Helmut Metz on 27th Mar 1943 and arrived at Bordeaux on 12th May 1943 after six and a half weeks. On 7th May 1943 in square BF 76, U-487 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 612 Squadron. U-487 carried out re-supply operations in quadrant AK (central North Atlantic) from 17th April until 20th. U-168, U-260, U-270, U-584, U-630 and U-662 were re-supplied for further operations. From the 25th April onwards U-487 supplied U-84, U-257, U-404, U-415, U-571 and U-618 for their return legs.
| 15.06.1943 - 13.07.1943 Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 15th Jun 1943, U-487 left Bordeaux under the command of Helmut Metz. On the 13th Jul 1943, U-487 was sunk.U-487 carried out re-supply operations in quadrant DF (600 miles SW of the Azores) between 6th and 12th July for U-359, U-382, U-406, U-466, U-591, U-598, U-604 and U-662 for continued operations. U-195 was supplied for its return journey.
