First Sailing - active patrol
U-527 left Kiel under the command of Herbert Uhlig on 9th Feb 1943 and arrived at return on 12th Apr 1943 after nearly nine weeks.
At 1035 HRS on 17th Mar 1943 in square AK 86, U-527 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 86 Squadron. U-527 was not damaged by the attack.
At 1429 HRS on 18th Mar 1943 in square AK 93, U-527 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 120 Squadron. U-527 was not damaged by the attack.
At 1809 HRS on 18th Mar 1943 in square AK 93, U-527 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 120 Squadron. U-527 was not damaged by the attack.
On 20th Mar 1943 in square AL 55, U-527 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 201 Squadron. U-527 was moderately damaged by the attack.
On 5th Apr 1943 U-527 came under attack from an aircraft of RCAF 423 Squadron. U-527 was not damaged by the attack.
On 10th Apr 1943 U-527 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 210 Squadron. U-527 was not damaged by the attack.
Herbert Uhlig hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-229 and one was from convoy SC-121.
  • On 8th Mar 1943 he sank the British 5,242 ton Fort Lamy, sailing with convoy SC-121.
  • On 19th Mar 1943 he damaged the American 5,848 ton Mathew Luckenbach, a member of convoy HX-229.
