11.01.1944 - 26.03.1944 First Sailing - active patrol U-549 left Kiel under the command of Detlev Krankenhagen on 11th Jan 1944 and arrived at Lorient on 26th Mar 1944 after more than ten weeks.
14.05.1944 - 29.05.1944 Second Sailing - active patrol On the 14th May 1944, U-549 left Lorient under the command of Detlev Krankenhagen. U-549 was lost on 29th May 1944. Detlev Krankenhagen hit two ships on this patrol. On 29th May 1944 he damaged the American 1,300 ton USS Barr. On 29th May 1944 he sank the American 9,393 ton USS Block Island.
