First Sailing - active patrol
U-568 left Trondheim under the command of Joachim Preuss on 3rd Aug 1941 and arrived at St. Nazaire on 10th Sep 1941 after five and a half weeks.
Joachim Preuss hit one ship on this patrol from convoy ONS-4.
  • On 12th Aug 1941 he sank the British 925 ton HMS Picotee, sailing with convoy ONS-4.
09.10.1941 - 07.11.1941
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 9th Oct 1941, U-568 left St. Nazaire under the command of Joachim Preuss and returned to St. Nazaire on 7th Nov 1941 after just over four weeks on patrol.
Joachim Preuss hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy, both of them were from convoy SC-48.
  • On 16th Oct 1941 he sank the British 6,023 ton Empire Heron, a member of convoy SC-48.
  • On 17th Oct 1941 he damaged the American 1,630 ton USS Kearny, part of convoy SC-48.
04.12.1941 - 17.01.1942
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-568 departed under Joachim Preuss from St. Nazaire on 4th Dec 1941 and arrived at La Spezia on 17th Jan 1942 after over six weeks.
Joachim Preuss hit one ship on this patrol.
  • On 24th Dec 1941 he sank the British 925 ton HMS Salvia.
02.03.1942 - 30.03.1942
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-568 left La Spezia under the command of Joachim Preuss on 2nd Mar 1942 and returned four weeks later to La Spezia on 30th Mar 1942.
21.05.1942 - 29.05.1942
Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 21st May 1942, U-568 left La Spezia under the command of Joachim Preuss. The boat was lost on 29th May 1942.
