First Sailing - active patrol
U-645 left Kiel under the command of Otto Ferro on 24th Apr 1943 and arrived at Brest on 22nd Jun 1943 after eight and a half weeks.
At 1500 HRS on 6th May 1943 in square AL 23, U-645 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft.
At 1603 HRS on 19th May 1943 in square AK 54, U-645 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 120 Squadron.
At 0306 HRS on 21st May 1943 in square AK 64, U-645 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft.
At 1300 HRS on 12th Jun 1943 in square BD 36, U-645 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 86 Squadron. U-645 was only slightly damaged in the attack. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.
At 1623 HRS on 12th Jun 1943 in square BE 14, U-645 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 86 Squadron. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.
On 18th Jun 1943 in square BE 92, U-645 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 59 Squadron. The boat defended itself with flak without destroying the aircraft.
On 19th Jun 1943 in square BE 93, U-645 came under attack from an aircraft of RAF 236+248 Squadron.
23.08.1943 - 21.10.1943
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 23rd Aug 1943, U-645 left Brest under the command of Otto Ferro and after eight and a half weeks arrived at La Pallice on 21st Oct 1943.
Otto Ferro hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy ON-202 and one was from convoy SC-143.
  • On 20th Sep 1943 he sank the American 7,176 ton Frederick Douglass, sailing with convoy ON-202.
  • On 9th Oct 1943 he sank the American 5,612 ton Yorkmar, a member of convoy SC-143.
02.12.1943 - 24.12.1943
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-645 departed under Otto Ferro from La Pallice on 2nd Dec 1943. The boat was sunk on 24th Dec 1943.
