First Sailing - active patrol
U-7 left Kiel under the command of Werner Heidel on 30th Aug 1939 for operations off the Polish coast and arrived back at Kiel just over one week later on 8th Sep 1939.
18.09.1939 - 03.10.1939
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 18th Sep 1939, U-7 left Kiel under the command of Werner Heidel for operations off the Norwegian coast and returned to Kiel on 3rd Oct 1939 after just over two weeks on patrol.
Werner Heidel hit two ships on this patrol.
  • On 22nd Sep 1939 he sank the British 2,694 ton Akenside.
  • On 29th Sep 1939 he sank the Norwegian 1,830 ton Takstaas.

Third Sailing - active patrol
U-7 departed under Karl Schrott from Kiel on 3rd Mar 1940 for operations in the North Sea and arrived at Wilhelmshaven on 8th Mar 1940 after five days.
14.03.1940 - 19.03.1940
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-7 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Karl Schrott on 14th Mar 1940 for operations in the Skagerrak and returned five days later to Wilhelmshaven on 19th Mar 1940.
03.04.1940 - 21.04.1940
Fifth Sailing - active patrol
On the 3rd Apr 1940, U-7 left Wilhelmshaven under the command of Karl Schrott for operations W of Norway and arrived at Kiel on 21st Apr 1940 after two and a half weeks.
07.05.1940 - 18.05.1940
Sixth Sailing - active patrol
U-7 departed under Karl Schrott from Kiel on 7th May 1940 for operations off the Dutch coast and returned to Kiel on 18th May 1940 after one and a half weeks on patrol.

Notes for U-7
U-7 sank as a result of a diving accident on 18th February 1944 in position 54.25N, 19.50E (W of Pillau). 29 men were lost, there were no survivors.
