First Sailing - active patrol
U-706 left Kiel under the command of Alexander von Zitzewitz on 22nd Sep 1942 and arrived at La Pallice on 7th Nov 1942 after six and a half weeks.
Alexander von Zitzewitz hit one ship on this patrol from convoy ONS-136.
On 12th Oct 1942 he sank the British 4,265 ton Stornest, sailing with convoy ONS-136.

Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 8th Dec 1942, U-706 left La Pallice under the command of Alexander von Zitzewitz and returned to La Pallice on 13th Feb 1943 after nine and a half weeks on patrol.
On 8th Feb 1943 in square BE 42, U-706 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft. U-706 was not damaged by the attack.
On 9th Feb 1943 in square BE 52, U-706 came under attack from an aircraft of USAAF 2 Squadron. U-706 was not damaged by the attack.

At 1107HRS on 22nd Apr 1943 in square AJ 82, U-706 came under attack from an aircraft of RCAF 5 Squadron. U-706 was not damaged by the attack.
Alexander von Zitzewitz hit two ships on this patrol and both of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-231 and one was from convoy HX-232.
On 5th Apr 1943 he sank the British 7,124 ton British Ardour, a member of convoy HX-231.
