First Sailing - active patrol
U-709 left Kiel under the command of Karl-Otto Weber on 13th Feb 1943 and arrived at Brest on 18th Mar 1943 after more than four weeks.
On 14th Mar 1943 in square BE 29, U-709 came under attack from an unidentified aircraft. U-709 was not damaged by the attack.
15.04.1943 - 23.05.1943
Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 15th Apr 1943, U-709 left Brest under the command of Karl-Otto Weber and returned to Brest on 23rd May 1943 after five and a half weeks on patrol.
05.07.1943 - 20.07.1943
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-709 departed under Karl-Otto Weber from Brest on 5th Jul 1943 and arrived back at Brest on 20th Jul 1943 after just over two weeks on patrol.
02.10.1943 - 03.10.1943
Fourth Sailing
U-709 left Brest under the command of Karl-Otto Weber on 2nd Oct 1943 and returned one day later to Brest on 3rd Oct 1943.

On the 6th Oct 1943, U-709 left Brest under the command of Karl-Otto Weber and arrived at Lorient on 28th Nov 1943 after seven and a half weeks.

Sixth Sailing - active patrol
U-709 departed under Rudolf Ites from Lorient on 25th Jan 1944. U-709 was lost on 1st Mar 1944.
