U-85 left Trondheim under the command of Eberhard Greger on 28th Aug 1941 and arrived at return on 18th Sep 1941 after three weeks.
Eberhard Greger hit one ship on this patrol from convoy SC-42.
  • On 10th Sep 1941 he sank the British 4,748 ton Thistleglen, sailing with convoy SC-42.

Second Sailing
On the 11th Oct 1941, U-85 left St. Nazaire under the command of Eberhard Greger and after two days arrived at return on 13th Oct 1941.On the 12th October, OL Greger decided to return to St Nazaire because of a defect in the water cooling system.
16.10.1941 - 27.11.1941
Third Sailing - active patrol
U-85 departed under Eberhard Greger from St. Nazaire on 16th Oct 1941 and arrived at return on 27th Nov 1941 after six weeks.
08.01.1942 - 23.02.1942
Fourth Sailing - active patrol
U-85 left Lorient under the command of Eberhard Greger on 8th Jan 1942 and after six and a half weeks arrived at return on 23rd Feb 1942.
Eberhard Greger hit one ship on this patrol from convoy ON-60.
  • On 9th Feb 1942 he sank the British 5,408 ton Empire Fusilier, a member of convoy ON-60.
21.03.1942 - 14.04.1942
Fifth Sailing
On the 21st Mar 1942, U-85 left St. Nazaire under the command of Eberhard Greger and arrived at return on 14th Apr 1942 after three and a half weeks.
Eberhard Greger hit one ship on this patrol.
  • On 10th Apr 1942 he sank the Norwegian 4,904 ton Chr Knudsen.
