First Sailing - active patrol
U-98 left Kiel under the command of Robert Gysae on 12th Mar 1941 and arrived at return on 14th Apr 1941 after more than four weeks.
Robert Gysae hit four ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-117, one was from convoy SC-25 and two were from convoy SC-26.
  • On 27th Mar 1941 he sank the British 6,695 ton Koranton, sailing with convoy SC-25.
  • On 4th Apr 1941 he sank the Norwegian 2,467 ton Helle, a member of convoy SC-26.
  • On 4th Apr 1941 he sank the British 5,122 ton Wellcombe, part of convoy SC-26.
  • On 9th Apr 1941 he sank the Dutch 1,304 ton Prins Willem II, from convoy HX-117.

Second Sailing - active patrol
On the 1st May 1941, U-98 left Lorient under the command of Robert Gysae and after four weeks arrived at return on 29th May 1941.
Robert Gysae hit three ships on this patrol and all of them were in convoy: One was from convoy HX-126, one was from convoy OB-322 and one was from convoy SC-30.
  • On 13th May 1941 he sank the British 10,549 ton HMS Salopian, sailing with convoy SC-30.
  • On 20th May 1941 he sank the British 5,356 ton Rothermere, a member of convoy HX-126.
  • On 21st May 1941 he sank the British 7,402 ton Marconi, part of convoy OB-322.

U-98 departed under Robert Gysae from St. Nazaire on 23rd Jun 1941 and arrived at return on 23rd Jul 1941 after over four weeks.

  • On 16th Sep 1941 he sank the British 4,392 ton Jedmoor, a member of convoy SC-42.

  • On 15th Feb 1942 he sank the British 5,298 ton Biela, part of convoy ON-62.
31.03.1942 - 06.06.1942
Seventh Sailing - active patrol
U-98 left St. Nazaire under the command of Wilhelm Schulze on 31st Mar 1942 and arrived at return on 6th Jun 1942 after nine and a half weeks.
17.07.1942 - 16.09.1942
Eighth Sailing - active patrol
On the 17th Jul 1942, U-98 left St. Nazaire under the command of Wilhelm Schulze and after more than eight weeks arrived at return on 16th Sep 1942.

U-98 laid mines on this patrol. These mines were hit by 1 ship.
The 185 ton American USS Bold was damaged by a mine on 10th Aug 1942.
22.10.1942 - 15.11.1942
Ninth Sailing
