30.12.1943 - 05.01.1944 First Sailing U-985 left Kiel under the command of Horst Wilhelm Kessler on 30th Dec 1943 and arrived at Bergen on 5th Jan 1944 after six days.
19.01.1944 - 12.03.1944 Second Sailing - active patrol On the 19th Jan 1944, U-985 left Bergen under the command of Horst Wilhelm Kessler and after seven and a half weeks arrived at St. Nazaire on 12th Mar 1944. Horst Wilhelm Kessler hit one ship on this patrol from convoy UR-108. On 8th Feb 1944 he sank the British 1,735 ton Margit, sailing with convoy UR-108.
06.06.1944 - 15.06.1944 Third Sailing - active patrol U-985 departed under Heinz Wolff from St. Nazaire on 6th Jun 1944 and arrived back at St. Nazaire on 15th Jun 1944 after just over one week on patrol.
30.08.1944 - 23.10.1944 Fourth Sailing - active patrol U-985 left St. Nazaire under the command of Heinz Wolff on 30th Aug 1944 and after more than seven weeks arrived at Flekkefjord on 23rd Oct 1944.
25.10.1944 - 26.10.1944 Fifth Sailing On the 25th Oct 1944, U-985 left Flekkefjord under the command of Heinz Wolff and arrived at Kristiansand on 26th Oct 1944 after one day.
