The ship struck a mine in a barrier (9 mine) laid on 4 September between 03:02 CET and 04:04 CET by U-13 astride the heavily travelled shipping lane.� The ship sank within minutes.� The Master and 74 crew were rescued by the Aldeburgh lifeboat and coasters.�Six crew were lost. Other ships hitting a mine in this barrier were CITY OF PARIS and PHRYNE.
