At 07:52 CET U-198 fired a salvo of two torpedoes. At 08:00 CET Dumra was sunk with a finishing shot. The Master, 24 crew and one gunner were lost. 65 crew and one gunner landed at Santa Lucia Bay, Natal.
The Chief Engineer was taken prisoner of war by U-198 and was landed at Bordeaux on September 24. He was taken to the prisoner of war camp Milag Nord.
