On 8 November 1942 at 17:00 CET, LEEDSTOWN was hit by an aerial torpedo. On 9 November at 12:55 CET she was severely damaged during an aerial bombardment, by three near-misses.� On 9 November 1942 U-331 fired a 4-torpedo salvo at the anchored ship which was protected by gunboats.� U-331 reported three hits and strong sinking noises.
