Thanks and Acknowledgements

The following have helped me in some way with my research, or they have helped to make ubootwaffe.net a better site. Their kindness and generous help in some cases has gone way beyond my highest expectations. Listed in no particular order —

David Speaks
Kindly mailed me his extensive collection of photos taken of U-505 at the MSI. David's photos are such excellent quality that we will be providing them here with captions for the enjoyment of fellow enthusiasts. Despite David's offer to share these photos with us, please remember they remain his property.

Ken Dunn
When I started corresponding with Ken I casually mentioned my current interest and research. Before I knew it, Ken was sending large amounts of information, references, and guidance that has brought me much closer to my goal. Ken's own research is of a high standard.

Dr Axel Niestlé
Axel is a scholar and a gentleman. He is considered the leading researcher on the fates of U-Boats. His thorough research has greatly increased our understanding of U-Boat history. Axel has kindly provided me with precise and timely help with my research.

Werner Freitag
Another quiet achiever who has very generously provided me with quite extensive information, much of which appears in the U-Boat operations section. Werner is retired now but keeps an eye on things here.

Fernando Almeida
Fernando Almeida is a researcher currently preparing a massive reference work involving years of dedicated research. Fernando first contributed some links here and now has helped improve the accuracy of the operations pages. Fernando has very generously provided us with a huge amount of information from his own extensive research databases, and provides us with ongoing research which means that we will regularly have updated information for you. Fernando also is working on the glossary with Christine (see below).

Christine Hillmann
Christine worked with Fernando on a glossary of German terms that is very useful to researchers working with documents, KTBs, and records in their research. This is a huge undertaking and is a great resource especially if like me, your German skills are fairly basic.

Hubertus Weggelaar
Hubertus has been working on collecting names of U-Boot-waffe crew members, and is always keen to help researchers and enthusiasts with information from his database. He has helped me and many others in the past, and is another example of people generously sharing the information they collect. Now, you can search his crew lists online here.

Horst Schmeisser
Horst has been of great assistance with crew lists and Feldpost numbers. He promptly and willingly answers all manner of difficult queries and displays a remarkable depth of detailed knowledge about aspects of U-Boats that are not always covered elsewhere. He also tolerates my rather ordinary German correspondence... We are very grateful for his friendly help.

Roger Griffiths
Roger is frequently to be found in The National Archives UK, searching through records for information or photographs for others. He knows the archives well and kindly uses his knowledge to help many of us who can't always get to the archives. Roger has been especially helpful with my own research interests. As well as providing research sources information he also gives an interesting insight into some of the treasures in the archives here.

David Rayner
For years now David has been carefully collecting and recording information about shipping and shipping losses during WW2, along with a host of other related information. He's kindly provided the fruits of his labour to us, which is the foundation of our new ships details tables that are to be found on each boat's page. With well over 3,600 entries, this is a major contribution to the site and is proving to be a remarkably popular addition.

Kirill Klementuev
Kirill is providing much extra information and corrections to the details we have of Soviet ships attacked by U-Boat. This is a fairly unexplored field, so we're very grateful to Kirill for his extensive notes and details that he kindly provides for these ships.

Vince Edwards
A man that shares my enthusiasm for all things U-Boat related, Vin has been providing me with all sorts of articles, cuttings and informative material that broadens my perspectives of WW2 history. Vin specializes in U-Boats around the UK litoral.

Walter Janssens
Walter is another one of the people that help to make this site so much better. He helps by finding errors on ships details, or extra information that helps make the ships details a fast growing area of this site. Like everyone who works here, Walter is a valuable addition to our crew.

Roland Berr
Roland has spent many years pursuing his research into primary sources of U-Boat history. He is currently producing daily summaries from KTBs of the U-Bootwaffe. Very generously he has offered to share his work with us, it's now available on our daily status pages. We're delighted to bring this invaluable resource to our readers.

Hans Mair
Hans runs a very good site about U-35. He's offered help and information from the time this site started, including donating the domain name u-boat.info to the site. Hans' site is a small taste of his upcoming book on U-35.

Dennis Peck
Dennis is providing assistance with weeding out errors and inconsistencies with some of the information in the operations pages, especially with regard to sinkings. His help is leading to us being able to provide greater accuracy and clearer information.

Steve Brew
Steve has done a lot of research on his family history, and as part of that research he has written two articles about a relative and his part in WW2 history. You can read Steve's great articles here.

uboat.net forum members
There are many people on the forum at uboat.net who have been without doubt some of the most sharing and keen enthusiasts of naval history I've experienced. There are times when they almost trip over themselves to be first to help someone with an answer. My daily enjoyment of U-boat history and research would be the poorer without them.
